Burlington, VT Accounting Firm | IRS Audit Representation Page | Montgomery & Merrill PC

Nothing strikes fear in the hearts of people more than receiving an IRS Audit letter in the mail. Audits can take significant time away from your business and family, requiring you to gather mounds of records substantiating each and every item in question on your tax return and develop a comprehensive understanding of tax law. It can be stressful.

The IRS leaves no stone unturned in its mission to determine the accuracy of your tax return. That is their job.  Sometimes audits result in additional tax owed, sometimes they end up with tax refunds and often they end up with no change.

Many taxpayers decide to handle a tax audit themselves, others prefer to have us represent them.  We cannot promise what the outcome will be, but, because we understand the tax issues, we are often in a better position to assure that the outcome is reasonable.

We can  work with you to get through your IRS audit in several ways.  We can help you understand what the auditor is looking for, we can communicate with the IRS on your behalf, we can help you assemble the information requested and we can help you understand the outcome. Each situation is different, so it makes sense to understand the issues and options before you decide how to proceed.
