 Colleen returned to her hometown after receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College. After ten years as Museum Registrar and Assistant Curator of the Robert Hull Fleming Museum at the University of Vermont, Colleen went back to school at UVM to study accounting. Following the completion of the accounting curriculum, she joined the Burlington office of Urbach, Kahn & Werlin, a mid sized regional accounting firm. During her nine years with UKW, Colleen concentrated in taxation, serving as tax manager for three years before leaving to start Montgomery & Merrill in 1994 with Marcia S. Merrill, CPA.


A firm believer in community involvement, Colleen mentors a young woman she was matched with in 2005 through Spectrum. Colleen's past community involvement includes three years on the board for Mobius, the Mentoring Movement; many years of volunteering with Vermont Freedom to Marry;  six years on the board of the Burlington Boys and Girls Club; five years on the Lake Champlain Regional School-to-Work Collaborative; one year on the Executive Committee of the Lake Champlain Regional School-to-Work Council; five years on the Board of the Vermont Society of CPAs, including a term as President; many years on the Board of the Burlington Childrens' Space; two terms on the Board of Advisors of the Robert Hull Fleming Museum at the University of Vermont; graduation from the Leadership Champlain program of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce; years of active involvement with the Parent –Teacher organizations at Edmunds Elementary, Edmunds Middle School and Burlington High School and over nine gallons of blood donated through the American Red Cross. In her spare time, Colleen enjoys a variety of classes at the YMCA and her beloved Book Group.
